Though both are Islamic, the Sunnis and Shias are at odds with each another. Intensifying hostilities between these factions is the race to control large portions of the world’s energy.

And further jumbling the landscape is Turkey, which pursues regional dominance and a revival of the Ottoman-Turk Empire.
