As we come to Daniel chapter 5, Nebuchadnezzar is no longer king of Babylon. He had ruled over the empire for 43 years and died at age 72. In verse 1 we are told: “Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.” This feast would prove disastrous – so much so, that a new empire would replace Babylon that very night!
